02/08/2005 Archived Entry: "One of many reasons I love Gilmore Girls"
"We can't predict if [Gilmore Girls] will be back next season. But I do know what the series finale is; I know what the last two lines are. But I'm not going to tell you." I love that the showrunners know what their series is about. I love that they're loose enough to let characters and plot lines develop organically, but have a firm enough grasp on the big picture to know how the story will end. Not to mention the actual writing is so much better than Babylon 5.
Replies: 2 comments And the loving continues: Amy even gives consistent interviews! Sherman-Palladino's contract is once again up for renewal in May... One issue is whether Sherman-Palladino will stay on as exec producer for the duration of the series (the length of which would be determined by the network and Warner Bros.)... at press time no deal was made. Sherman-Palladino is preparing herself in case she and the network don't reach an agreement. If I don't come back or they don't want me back, they can keep it going with other people, but...it would f---ing kill me to not close out the show. I've known what the finale should be since I pitched the pilot.... The show should at least go through [Rory's] college graduation. I just don't want to be sitting at home watching with a bottle of vodka and a bottle of Demerol crying when [the new writers] decide Rory is going to be a pole dancer at a strip club in Chicago, and I'm like, ''NO! She was going to be Christiane Amanpour!'' I'm saying this for whoever's writing the show at that time - maybe they'll be really tired and won't feel like coming up with a story, so here, I'll give you the story: She's got to fly. She's strong. She's got no obvious allergies. I've got the finale in my head, so whoever you are, give me a call. I've got it all - right down to the last two words.
