08/29/2004 Archived Entry: "Up With Down With Love" Just watched Down With Love tonight, a fun movie which tries a little too hard sometimes but is nonetheless very lovable. Kinda like my cat. Anyway, Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger do a great song-and-dance number over the closing credits that is probably worth the price of of the soundtrack. And I knew Ms. Zellweger was a triple threat, but I'm even more amazed after her uninterrupted, three-minute-long "reveal" speech in the third act, on which pretty much the whole movie depends and which she nails, pitch-perfect. Three minutes, one shot, no cutting. According to the director's commentary, they did six takes, and she nailed it on the fifth. Now that, boys and girls, is a professional actor. But for my money, David Hyde Pierce still got the best line: "Where's the geisha? I need my shoes."
